In 1994 Brian & Colleen Harrison decided to reveal the gruesome bizarre stories buried in The Rocks. These stories were passed down through the generations of Brians family who had ran boarding houses in The Rocks. Together with his wife Colleen, a descendant of Sophia Lett who owned the Punchbowl Inn they embarked on creating The Rocks Ghost Tours.
Over the years many customers have reported strange phenomena, sent photos and related many ghostly experiences to the Ghost Hosts.
We approach the future with enthusiasm for our company and our aim is to write a book with the untold ghost stories of The Rocks.
Join our Ghost Host on a Tour of The Rocks, hear true stories of murder, suicide, hangings, hauntings and Ghosts as you journey along the cobblestone lanes into the hidden areas of the birthplace of Australia.
Many of the sites we visit have had recent reports of sightings and strange phenomena.
You may encounter shades of the deceased still lingering amongst the living. BOOK IF YOU DARE

Francis used ancient occult architectural theories to design the Old Goulburn Brewery & Bradley Grange Industrial Centre and the brewery is the oldest in Australia still in it’s original location. It is an eerie sight to behold and is even spookier at night as we lead you through the dark secrets and mysterious past on this lantern lit tour into Goulburn’s Pioneering past.
Enjoy a delicious meal and a glass of cold brew before your Adventure of a Fright Time!
The mystifying 'Legends, Mysteries & Ghosts' tour may start with Caves House and take you in the dark, by lantern, through the caves, with no set route.
Jenolan has a long history and was known to the Gundungurra people as 'Binoomea' which means "the dark place". Instead of showing cave formations, your tour guide may tell you strange legends or stories about our unexplained phenomena, sometimes from personal experience. This tour is not just 'ghost stories'. It includes some of our history and mysteries.
There is no 'ghost cave'. However, strange sounds, sights and experiences have been reported from all our show caves over the years. So, this tour has no set route. You don't need to plan your other cave tours around this one, as it will be a completely different experience. The cave is a 'backdrop' rather than the focus, so be prepared to be unnerved by mysterious tales in an almost dark cave.
Overwhelmingly popular, the 'Legends, Mysteries & Ghosts' tour is aimed at adults. We take a maximum of 20 on each tour, so please book ahead.
Monte Cristo Homestead has been explored by many ghost hunters - it has also been featured on the world famous Castle of Spirits website as one of their favorite haunts. The Australian Ghost Hunters Society regularly holds ghost hunts at Monte Cristo and have had some very interesting experiences there on occassion.
Monte Cristo: Australia's Most Haunted House.
By
Peter Underwood. FRSA.
Peter Underwood FRSAThis historic two-story house in Junee with its wide verandahs and beautiful wrought iron work is now open to thousands of visitors each year - and they all want to know about the ghosts and tragedies associated with this sprawling mansion.
The original occupants were William Crawley and his family in 1884 and it would appear that from the Crawley family most of the stories of ghosts and hauntings and many other tragic happenings seem to originate.
In fact the ghost of old Mrs Crawley has been seen many times in her former room and in recent years. It is believed that after William Crawley died in 1910, from a carbuncle on his neck becoming infected by his starched collar, Mrs Crawley only left the house on two occasions in the remaining 23 years of her life: no wonder her presence still lingers. Then there are the mysterious lights, apparitions. Not without cause is Monte Cristo a favorite Australian tourist attraction for a great number of Australians and other visitors.
Private investigations allowed provided terms and conditions are met. See website for more information.
Voluntary guides conduct public tours within the cemetery on the first Sunday of every month, from March to November. Tours commence at 10am.
Public tours depart near the corner of Necropolis Circuit & William Drive. The starting point is easy to find as you will find our tent and a group of eager volunteers.
Twilight tours are held from 5.30pm until 7.30pm, in the cool of the evening, and they depart from the small pedestrian gate in East St Lidcombe. Twilight tours are conducted from November until March, excluding December.
Tour days provide us with the funds to assist in the restoration of projects within the cemetery.
The Friends of Rookwood conduct general tours of the Heritage areas each month & also a "theme" tour from the following list.
Maitland Gaol's foundation stone was laid in 1844 with the official opening and reception of the first prisoners occuring in 1848. Built of sandstone from Morpeth and Farley, it is considered to be the most intact country gaol in New South Wales and is the longest continuously operating correctional institution in Australia.
After holding some of Australia's most hardened criminals, Maitland Gaol closed on the 30th January 1998. Inmates were transferred to other prisons with the final transfer at noon that day. The last buildings were completed on the site in 1993.
The closure of the complex was announced in 1996 as part of an upgrade to the state's prison system. It closed because security did not meet community expectations, conditions were considered unsuitable and the cost of operating the antiquated facility was excessive.
Departing from Cammeray Square, on the corner of Miller Street and Amherst Street in Cammeray, Sydney Ghost Tours visit:
There are tales on this tour of grand adventure, love, lust, greed, murder, cannibalism, mayhem and intrigue from our Georgian and Victorian era past. With so many reports of paranormal activity on the north shore, you never know who might make their "presence" felt. It is even more likely that you may never look at the north side of the harbour quite the same way again. Are you brave enough to want to find out about Sydney's hidden secrets?
Like all of our walking tours, this tour is a Historic Ghost tour. We have to talk about some really extraordinary history, so that the context of the ghost stories make sense . ( This won't be the dry, stuffy history as you remember from school. This stuff is gritty, real and fascinating!) . About 70% of what we talk about is taken from peoples letters, diaries and public records. 10% of the tour will be my own opinion and "connecting the dots" from years of dedicated research. The 20% Paranormal part of the tour is a completely "make your own mind up" exercise....!
Our tours are conducted by walking on public property only. A number of the things we talk about happen on government and private property, that having people walk through risks either damaging the site, or poses unacceptable risk to life and limb - for example one of them is currently an abandoned building site where people have been injured. So we will show you as much as we can, while we follow the law, preserve the sites, and your life and limbs. We also go in all weathers - so bring warm clothing, sensible shoes and wet weather gear.
We have a lot of good fun and belly laughs on Sydney Ghost Tours. Most people just come in comfortable, casual evening clothes. If you decide that you want to really make a night out of it, walk on the wild side and dress up as your favourite spooky figure - knock yourself out. Just bring something warm, and good walking shoes - it gets cold sometimes, and graveyards are very unforgiving on high heels...!
Chosen in 1832 as the ideal site for the development of a quarantine facility, due to its isolation, deep anchorage options and proximity to the entrance to Sydney Harbour, the site reflects the evolving cultural landscape of colonial Australia, as well as demonstrating the impact of changing social attitudes and scientific and medical developments.
Thousands of individually carved stone engravings on site, also record the diverse cultural and social backgrounds of quarantined passengers, mapping the station’s use from its early beginnings until its closure for quarantine purposes in 1984.
Today the site is renowned for its spectacular vantage points over Sydney Harbour and its situation within the beautiful surrounds of Sydney Harbour National Park. The site’s 65 heritage buildings reflect a rich history. Their diverse character is obtained through changing practices of use and expansions, when the site’s facilities were in high demand due to larger disease outbreaks. Many of these buildings have now been reinvigorated and restored providing unique Hotel, Conference and Wedding facilities.
Its diverse Education Programs, free Historical Exhibition, fascinating Ghost and History Tours and Luggage Store Visitor Centre and Cafe (open daily from 10am to 4pm) make the site a popular destination for day visitors, history buffs and school groups alike.
Featured on TV shows including Ghost Hunters International & Jabba's Curious World, Sydney's Quarantine Station, on North Head is known to be one of Australia's most haunted sites!
